Site Content, Just What Do You Put There?

Consider the following when writing your content.

1) What do your readers need to know?
2) What information or details will interest them?
3)  What style of writing will work for them?

Learn about your audience by examining magazines, websites and other media. Take note of:

  • Cover design and page layout,
  • The contents of the ads there,
  • Topics and titles,
  • The writing style and vocabulary
  • Look at the graphics
  • Presentation of the information and any opinions.

This can help you discover the kinds of readers you would expect for your own business.

Consulting, just what is it we do?

Every business process has a beginning, a middle and an end.

For most of us that do consulting, the beginning is usually a meeting with you, our client. This can be face to face, email, or phone.

I usually use  Skype which is free if you have an account with them.  It’s used on your computer with a headset.  Since most of the business is done online, I always recommend being in front of your computer for these calls. It makes it easier to go to links, I provide or you provide for examples.

The key purpose of the first call is to:

  • Identify any issues your having with your business
  • Determine whether I can actually be of help to you
  • Develop a rapport with you to build a partnership

At this time, I charge by the hour however the first initial half hour is free.  We need ground to build on or another way to look at it, is we need to have a solid foundation built by both you the client and I as the consultant.

Comments are always welcome on any blog post. Stay tuned for my next post

Important eBay Shipping Fees Update

Basically what it comes down to, is that eBay will be charging final value fees on the entire transaction including shipping.

If you have been offering free shipping for the past couple of years this will not affect you since you have already been paying these!

“Listings created PRIOR to July 6th will be treated differently than listings created AFTER July 6th.

It has been confirmed by Ina Steiner at AuctionBytes that listings created BEFORE July 6th will close at the CURRENT final value fee structure and will NOT be assessed fees on shipping.

Listings created ON July 6th or AFTER will see the reduced FVFs but they will be charged on the TOTAL amount of the order (including shipping).

So if you have listings that were created BEFORE July 6th, you will see a different fee percentage on those listings than on listings created from July 6th on.

What this means is that the fees charged on your August invoice will NOT be representative of your fees going forward.

New and exciting! Its a thrill to start a business on the internet with your own webpage.

Once your there, though, what do you do with it?

You need to dress it up. Make it look good. Put your all of your passion about your business on it!

There are a lot of build it yourself sites out there that are pretty good.  But they don’t provide that extra special graphic, logo, image that says IT’S YOURS!

This is where a graphic designer can step in and lend a helping hand.

Graphic designers come in all shapes and sizes. Small, large, fancy, and plain, it takes all kinds. Everyone is unique which is great! This is what it takes to create your dream!

What you should check for.

1) Portfolio:  If what they have there is not to your taste, it usually doesn’t do you any good to try them.

2) If they have a FAQ, be sure to check it out.

3)  Look at any references they have.

4)  How easily the information is available on their website?

5)  Contact page and site map should be easily available. Is it the case?

7)   Have they provided the relevant information/content?

Check for a website email and or phone and contact them. If you have samples of what you like, be sure to include those when you ask your questions.

Good luck!

Wow a new blog!

Setting up a blog should of been fairly easy, however without the quick install tool, I had to do things manually.  It basically takes a skill called “following written instructions”.  Anyone that has put a bike together or nifty looking tv console stand knows how glitchy those can be. :)

In that case, the next thing it takes is perseverance. I would equate this to a dog and his bone, a child and their lolly pop or the little choo choo train that could :)

Yes the blog is finally here :)    Now its time to put it to good use!
