Between Us

Truth stood at the gate
Between you and I.
Two truths, one facing you,
The other watching me.
Its face in bold relief,
Against the dying sun.
The sword it held, flashing red
Forcing me to accept,
Forcing you to accept,
That we each had our truth.
And as I leaned to receive
Your kiss.
I knew that truth would watch.
Keeping the honesty between us clear.
Or by the sword,

We would be lost to each other.
